Railtown 1897 State Historic Park
The park's famous steam trains offer excursions through the Sierra foothill gold country and have starred in movies and television shows since 1919; in productions such as High Noon and Little House on the Prairie.

Empire Mine State Historic Park
One of the oldest, largest, deepest, longest and richest gold mines in California. Operating for more than 100 years, the mine produced 5.6 million ounces of gold (equivalent to a box seven feet long on every side filled with gold).

California State Capitol Museum
The state capitol building features exhibits and tours - and possibly an opportunity to watch the legislators debate a bill or cast a vote. 40 acres of gardens surround the Capitol with trees from around the world.
